What does USB stand for?
USB stands for "Universal Serial Bus." It has become the de facto standard interface for computer devices because of it's ease-of-use and relative speed (compared to older technologies such as RS-232, parallel, etc.).
As the name indicates, USB is based on the same protocol that RS-232 (aka "serial") is, but don't let that fool you - USB is fast. The current standard, USB 2.0, maxes out at 480 Mbps and the newer USB 3.0 tops out at a blazing 5 Gbps.
In 2008 alone over 2 billion USB devices were sold - yes, that is billion with a B (source: Wikipedia).
The moral of the story? USB is ubiquitous and it is fast - you've come to the right place for the latest, most accurate information on what you can do with this amazing technology.
