Finding a universal serial bus (USB) port is not at all difficult. Using the picture provided, take the following instructions into account to plug in your USB device.
If you are using a desktop, you may find the USB port(s) located on the main unit of the computer, such as on the tower. Look near the disk drive where you insert CDs and DVDs; likely the USB and other media-related ports will be located there. Otherwise, look at the back of the main unit of the desktop. Amongst all of the wires and plugins you should have a few USB ports. It is not at all uncommon for a desktop to have USB ports in both spots. A normal desktop can have anywhere from a couple of ports to several ports.
If you are using a notebook, look on the sides of the computer. USB ports are often located there for easy access, near or often opposite of the disk drive. Similar to a desktop, you may also find USB ports in the back of your laptop. A normal laptop has at least two or three ports, and sometimes more.
The USB port is approximately half of an inch. There will likely be similar ports near the USB port. An easy way to distinguish it is to clarify the picture to your computer, or try your USB plug in the port to see if it fits.
If you are still having further problems identifying where the USB port is located on your computer, there are a few things you can try. You can consult your owner’s manual for your computer, which will identify all ports on the layout of the physical computer. You can also call the manufacturer for assistance. If you purchased your computer from a store, you could ask them for help. Lastly, it is likely that your local computer or electronics store would be glad to assist you.
The USB port is used commonly for a number of devices. A number of printers, mice, and speakers can be plugged into your computer via USB. There are a number of electronics products that connect to your computer with a USB connection, such as memory card readers, storage devices (USB flash drives), and external hard drives. More devices commonly use USB for charging, such as a smartphone, PDA, and video game consoles.
Once you find your USB ports you will become more accustomed at using them for your devices. You can even become familiar with more advanced devices that use the USB port, such as a hub that can provide you with more USB ports if you run out.
